Next Week: Is Friendship the Missing Piece in Your Marriage?

Growing Marriage Through Friendship and Faith

Last week’s blog series, “Is It Worth the Argument?”, asked whether every marital concern should be dismissed or turned into a fight. Big or small, many issues quietly feed pride and weaken the relationship. Whether a slight is swept under the rug or erupts into a heated exchange, both can damage a couple’s potential for growth. We pray the series helped you see the bigger picture and choose love over pride.

The companion podcast, “What Are You Saying?”, complements the blog by tracing how the stories we tell ourselves shape our thoughts, speech, and the way we relate to our spouse.

This week, after addressing threats to healthy communication, we’ll look at the atmosphere of friendship in marriage. The healthiest marriages are not only unions of lovers but lifelong friendships—formed and sustained by sweetness and the faithfulness of Christ.

Could your marriage use a renewed sense of friendship?

Marital intimacy is incomplete when a couple has romance without friendship. A husband and wife may share a home, responsibilities, and physical affection, yet still need to grow as companions—people who enjoy one another, trust one another, and walk through life together.

Friendship is not something couples can simply assume will remain strong. It must be noticed, protected, and intentionally cultivated.

Let’s discover how to cultivate friendship again in our marriages.

Is your marriage still imprisoned by the past?

Old conditioning can make us feel powerless, but it does not have to determine our future. A difficult marriage or recurring problem can change when both partners are willing to acknowledge the pattern, accept help, take courageous action, and trust God through the process.

Let’s learn not to confuse past conditioning with present inability. Together, we can pursue a marriage that is freer, more hopeful, and increasingly shaped by the transforming work God is doing.
