Dear Friends,

C. S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity:

“ There are certain things in Christianity that can be understood from the outside, before you have become a Christian. But there are a great many things that cannot be understood until after you have gone a certain distance along the Christian road. These things are purely practical, though they do not look as if they were.” — C.S. Lewis

This reminds us that Christianity is not simply a set of beliefs to understand—it is a journey to walk. Many truths become clearer as we take the next step of faith, obedience, and trust in God.

The same is true of discipleship in marriage. We can learn about patience, forgiveness, sacrificial love, humility, and servant leadership. We may even agree that these qualities are important. Yet they are most fully understood when we begin to practice them in the everyday moments of married life.

We discover the depth of forgiveness when we choose to extend it. We understand selflessness when we put our spouse’s needs before our own. We experience the strength of prayer when we bring our struggles to God together. The journey itself teaches us what no explanation alone can convey.

Discipleship in marriage is not about becoming perfect overnight. It is about faithfully taking the next step—together. Sometimes that step may be a difficult conversation, an act of kindness, a sincere apology, or simply choosing love when it feels costly.

As we continue walking with Christ and with one another, may we remember that understanding often follows obedience. Let us encourage each other to begin applying what God is teaching us, trusting that the journey will deepen our faith and strengthen our marriages.
