Turn Disagreements into Growth - This Week’s Guides

From Conflict to Communion: Practical Steps for a Christ-Centered Marriage

Last week we received timely reminders about anchoring our marriages in Christ. We were reminded that our vows and promises should shape our day-to-day lives and that they grow deeper as we learn to trust God more. A Christ-centered marriage is our greatest blessing — may we remain grounded in that truth and avoid accepting the world’s broken definitions of blessing.

This week, even as we hold to those promises and principles, we’ll still face challenges. Let’s take time to reflect on whether every difference or disagreement needs to become an argument, and consider how our responses affect both our marriage and our relationship with God.

Is being right worth losing peace in your marriage?

Every couple faces moments when a simple conversation turns into an argument. Often, the issue is not as important as the need to prove who is right. Let’s discover how pride can quietly create strife and how humility, love and wisdom can restore peace. Together, let’s learn that marriage is not about winning arguments but about growing in Christ and helping one another to follow Him.

What is your self-talk saying about your marriage?

There’s a conversation that happens within us every day, yet often goes unnoticed - our self-talk or internal dialogue. Although it may be heard out loud, it continually shapes our attitudes, emotions, choices, and the way we see our spouse and marriage. Is your inner dialogue building up your spouse and strengthening your relationship or feeding frustration, assumptions and distance. Let’s explore how renewing our minds through God’s truth can transform our thoughts, improve our communication, and strengthen our marriages.

Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity: “ There are certain things in Christianity that can be understood from the outside, before you have become a Christian. But there are a great many things that cannot be understood until after you have gone a certain distance along the Christian road. These things are purely practical, though they do not look as if they were.” — C.S. Lewis This reminds us that Christianity is...
